And totally unrelated from the above clip, there are two In Memoriams to mention, but I have no sound clips from them. First, Ingmar Bergman, a great director. His film Det Sjunde inseglet, aka The Seventh Seal, is still considered one of the "must see" films by many schools. Second, Michel Serrault. Most Americans won't know of him, but I can remember back when La Cage Aux Folles had just been released and was one we were required to watch for a film class. I don't think I'd laughed so much since watching Woody Allen's Love and Death (which I still consider his funniest film). For those who enjoyed the stage show of the same name or the film The Birdcage (and you don't mind subtitles), please watch the original La Cage in French (no dubs!). While compared to current films, it is somewhat stereotyped and dated, but Michel Serrault's performace is priceless. You'll never think of John Wayne the same way again. |
